About the Director of Human Resources
Our client, a future, leading provider of assisted living communities has a brand new role, seeking a Director of Human Resources located at their Corporate Office in Chicago.
The Director of Human Relations reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer. You will be responsible for establishing the Human Resource Department for corporate and multi-site communities.
You will be responsible for the communication of all human resource policies and procedures and help create the current Team Handbook. You will partake, and be responsible for the administration of all employee benefit plans; Health Plans, 401(k) Plans, and other benefits. You will also conduct site visits to ensure personnel policy compliance for regulatory rules and company policies.This position has responsibility for identifying the best method(s) for attracting quality talent to the organisation, managing the pre-screening of candidates and assist in establishing a flow of candidates to be presented to hiring managers for interviews.
Recap of Duties | Director of Human Resources
- Partners with Chief Operating Officer to negotiate annual benefits contracts including medical, dental, life insurance, EAP and 401K.
- Works directly with brokers and managers to address and resolve complex benefit questions, disputes with providers and unusual situations that may arise regarding specific coverage issues.
- Develops communication materials to ensure that employees possess the tools needed to understand and access their benefits.
- Manages open enrollment.
- Reviews and prepares payment for medical, dental, and life and supplemental life insurance.
- Reviews, prepares 401K and 401b payments.
Compliance | Director of Human Resources
- Advises Management to ensure the organisations adopted personnel policy adheres to law and that the company’s mission and objectives are sound personnel and ethical practices.
- Monitors personnel practices and procedures to ensure conformance with legal requirements and fairness.
- Contacts Corporate Counsel as needed to ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws and/or statutes.
- Ensures safety compliance and responds to outside agencies. Sits on the Safety Committee as the HR representative.
Training | Director of Human Resources
- Partners with Management to identify training needs-assessments as needed.
- Oversees in-house training programs.
- Oversees and coordinates New Hire Orientation.
- Develops and implements training on a variety of HR topics.
Employee Relations | Director of Human Resources
- Partners with managers to discuss employee relations issues, outline potential solutions and advise managers regarding potential liability issues resulting from various decisions.
- Conducts investigations (fact-finding) for personnel situations when they arise.
- Reduces company liability by preventative maintenance and timely response to personnel issues.
- Provides advice and counseling directly to employees to resolve personnel issues when necessary or requested.
- Mentors, trains and develops managers to effectively resolve personnel issues.
Strategic Planning & Development | Director of Human Resources
- Assists in aligning corporate culture with executive direction.
- Aides in managing connections and relationships between Management, managers, employees and outside human resource services.
- Models corporate goals.
- Prepares and monitors the budget for the human resources department.
- Tracks HR costs throughout the fiscal year.

Qualifications | Director of Human Resources
- Bachelor Degree, Human Resources
- Hardworking, dedicated and hands-on individual with a minimum of 3-5 years of HR Management.
- Experience with more than 1,000 team members with multi-location.
- A strong knowledge of employee policies and procedures.
- Talent acquisition and interviewing skills.
- Employee benefit plans, and regulatory knowledge of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Americans with Disabilities Act, HIPAA, and COBRA.
- Must be comfortable with a fast-paced, entrepreneurial culture.
