The vice president of market intelligence is responsible for building the market intelligence business within our client’s organisation, including planning and guiding the growth of the market intelligence service line, and leading the day-to-day implementation of our client’s research services, including consumer research, market studies, competitive analyses and pricing studies. The VP is responsible for leading the planning and conducting all research services, then analyzing the results and preparing written reports for presentation to clients. While general knowledge and experience with a variety of research methods will be important, the VP’s primary asset will be their ability to analyze data in a way that uncovers the “stories” hidden within the numbers, then communicate that story effectively.
The vice president of market intelligence will also play a primary role in our client’s work helping organizations plan expansions and start-up communities. Through the market intelligence department’s support of the company’s vice presidents and principals, it will be highly influential in helping communities plan what to build, how to price it, and how to position the communities for greatest success in their markets.
Primary Responsibilities
- Plan, conduct, analyze and develop reports for all types of research projects conducted by the firm
- Conduct consumer research studies, such as surveys and focus groups
- Conduct market feasibility studies (aka, strategic opportunities analyses)
- Conduct competitive pricing analyses
- Actively plan and support the growth of the market intelligence department, including identifying opportunities to enhance or add services, assisting in the marketing of the department’s services, and developing a strong supporting team
- Support the company’s development advisory team
- Support the firm’s annual proprietary research project
- Research senior living trends to support the company’s overall leadership position in the field
- Direct and coach the company’s market intelligence team as it grows, ensuring each team member achieves both their goals and their potential
- Detailed Responsibilities
- Plan, conduct, analyze and develop reports for all types of research projects conducted by the firm
- Develop work plans, schedules and budgets for research studies
- Request, gather and review background information from client
- Develop research tools (surveys, moderator’s guides, presentations) needed to implement research
- Guide the implementation of the research programs (survey distribution, focus group moderation, etc.)
- Compile and analyze data
- Write research reports
- Present the findings to clients
Actively plan and support the growth of the market intelligence department
- Identify opportunities to enhance or add services
- Assist in the marketing of the department’s services
- Develop a strong supporting market intelligence team
Support the company’s development advisory team
- Work with the vice presidents of strategic services and principals to help develop:
- Residence size and mix recommendations
- Pricing and contract recommendations
- Update the pricing and contract recommendations as the development plans progress
- Provide other competitive and market analysis support as needed
Support the firm’s annual proprietary research project
- Note: Management of the annual research project lies with the New Business team.
- Work with the New Business and senior management teams to identify options for each year’s proprietary research project
- Assist the New Business team in developing a research plan and budget for the completion of the selected project
- Assist as needed with the completion of the research project
Research senior living trends to support the company’s overall leadership position in the field
- Monitor key publications, blogs and other sources of industry trend information
- Pass on news and other information to our client’s team members as appropriate
Direct and coach the company’s market intelligence team as it grows, ensuring each team member achieves both their goals and their Potential
Interface regularly with the market intelligence team, and other departments as necessary, to ensure all projects are moving smoothly
- Oversee, coach and mentor supporting team members in the day-to-day management and completion of projects
- Work with each team member to create individual development plans
- Set annual and quarterly goals for staff development efforts
- Meet with each team member monthly to review overall performance and achievement of development goals
Qualifications
This is a supervisory-level position on the market intelligence team. The individual should have the following experience and capabilities:
- Minimum of 7 to 10 years of market research and data analysis experience
- Experience conducting market studies and consumer research for the senior living field
- Excellent writing skills; command of language, grammar and spelling; dedication to error-free work and communications
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Strong presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership teams and boards of directors
- Basic knowledge of Macintosh computers, especially with Microsoft Office and database management
- Ability to travel overnight (travel may be frequent)
- Bachelors degree
